A DAYTRIP FROM BLARNEY

Blarney Caravan Park is the perfect location from which to base your visit to the South of Ireland with a range of varied attractions within easy reach. Over the summer months the Emerald Isle hosts a wide range of festivals, regattas, sporting and music events.

Cork city is only a 15 minute drive from the park and has been described as ‘Irelands Venice’ due to its location in Cork Harbour. In the summer Cork hosts the annual International Choral Festival. Taking place in Cork City hall between 26th April and 30th April the festival welcomes choirs from across the world for a celebration of choral music in all its many forms.

From Cork city you can take the train down to Fota Wildlife Park, a great day out for all and a firm favourite with children of all ages. Watch the ring tailed lemurs sunning themselves while the kids feed the ducks and geese which roam freely throughout the park.

The railway at Fota will bring you into the centre of Cobh, a small coastal Island town in the heart of Cork Harbour. The last port of call on the Titanic’s maiden journey, Cobh, boasts incredible harbour views and the old White Star Line offices have been transformed into the ultimate Titanic experience. You can admire the Lusitania Memorial in Casement Square and the remains of the pier used to ferry the last passengers to the titanic. You can see the main attraction of St. Coleman’s Cathedral, Spike Island and Haulbowlin from most locations on the main street.

Why not take the cross river car ferry from Cobh and drive or cycle along the coast to Kinsale. Take a trip to Charlesfort and enjoy homemade scones and tea in the beautiful grounds before heading to the old head of Kinsale to enjoy some of the most breath taking scenery this lovely Island has to offer! Midleton is the home of Jameson Irish whiskey and the distillery there is open year round offering guided tours. Not to be missed, the brewery even offers a shuttle bus service from Cork City centre. You will smell the hops as you approach the distillery and thankfully get a taste of liquid gold after touring the old kilns and casks.
